Artist Statement

Music paints itself through me.

Music has been a lifelong connection—every genre, every mood. Looking around a concert and feeling the way strangers become one rhythm, that’s the closest thing I know to heaven on earth. I’ll never be a rock star, but if I can reflect a glimmer of that raw humanity on canvas —the joy, the chaos, the vulnerability—then I’ve done what I set out to do. The more uncertain the world gets, the more we need that connection.

I don’t paint to be everyone’s cup of tea—I paint to connect. If someone looks at my work and feels something, even if it’s not what I intended, that’s exactly why I do this.

When someone asks how I’m doing and I say, “living the dream,” this is the dream. The dream is collaborating with musicians to make sound into visual experience. Painting music live on stage in real time. Creating cover art, merch designs, and studio pieces. Showing someone the colors of their favorite song. Giving someone the image of their late father walking them down the aisle on their wedding day.

I set up my easel, and that’s all I need. Songs reveal themselves with my hands. Today, my work lives in the studios of some of my favorite musicians. It’s given me the honor of sharing my art, face to face, with the very artists who inspired me.

My soul becomes tangible through painting. Art is vulnerable, but there is no real connection without vulnerability.

With love,

BJ
